At first, I was skeptical of wrought iron outdoor furniture. I knew that it looked good – I’ve always loved the look of wrought iron furniture – but I wasn’t sure that it would hold up to the weather. And iron is known to rust pretty easily, especially if it rains a lot. Wouldn’t forged iron outdoor furniture to look weathered and rustybefore even one summer had passed?
What I didn’t realize was that most wrought iron outdoor furniture these days is treated to stop rust from building up. This is done in so many different ways. Usually, an enamel is painted over the furniture. You should, of course, check before you buy any wrought iron outdoor furniture. Still, more often than not, any furniture sold for the out-of-doors is made to withstand the weather.
What I prefer about wrought iron outdoor furniture is that it manages to be both durable and attractive. Wrought iron patio furniture lasts for a long time, unlike wicker which tends to fall apart after a couple of wet seasons. You may have to replace the cushions on your wrought iron chairs after a few years, but this is definitely cheaper than buying a brand new chair, and less wasteful as well! Best of all, outdoor wrought iron furniture usually looks good enough that you can bring it inside in a pinch. When I had a big dinner party the other day and needed more chairs, I simply brought my patio furnitureback inside. Nothing could be easier!
